Special screenings: animated films by Norman McLaren

Salle Claude-Léveillée April 26, 2020

Due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, Place des Arts has suspended all shows and other public activities until further notice. As a result, the Special screenings: animated films by Norman McLaren scheduled on April 26 has been cancelled.

A highly inventive artist considered to be the father of Canadian animation, Scottish director Norman McLaren paid a great deal of attention to rhythm, movement, and sound, using a variety of techniques to make his films. His palette of colours and shapes, along with the abstraction and musicality setting the rhythm for the films presented here in these two screenings, invite viewers to explore his singular worlds, offering an artistic awakening and an introduction to experimentation.

This activity is a perfect opportunity to introduce younger and older generations to Norman McLaren’s legacy of animated films and landmark work through some of his more striking shorts, veritable masterpieces of animation!
