School Program

Arts and culture—powerful tools for fostering student success in Greater Montreal.

Creating opportunities to put young Montrealers in touch with the performing arts. This is the philosophy behind Place des Arts’ School Program, which has been offered in the city’s schools for close to 10 years now. The program gives students, working with their teachers, a chance to take part in true creative experiences alongside enthusiastic artist-mediators.

The School Program is inspired by an aesthetic education approach. This method aims to change young people’s views of the world around them.

The ultimate goals of the program are to foster young people’s academic success, develop their critical sensibilities, and provide a sense of empowerment.

In 2022-2023, the School Program offers two options:

A) 1 Show of Your Choice + 2 Workshops

Workshops combined with a cultural outing allow students—working with their teachers and artist-mediators—to develop their personal cultural sensibilities, their creativity, and their ability to appreciate art.

Choice of a show among four themes: Slam, writing and music, rap (hip-hop) or comedie.

B) 1 Show + 1 Optional Workshop

The show and the optional workshop give students an opportunity to see a show, learn how it was created, and meet with its artists, thereby developing their ability to appreciate art while working with their teachers and artist-mediators.

Theme of the show: Urban dance and body expression
