Every summer, the Francos de Montréal shows us that French-language music is in excellent health! Since it was founded in 1989, the festival, managed by Équipe Spectra, has presented more than 250 shows a year, including nearly 70 shows in venues and 180 free outdoor events and concerts.
Each year in June, for the ten days of the festival, more than a million Montréalers and tourists swarm the festive Francos site on the Place des Arts plaza and in Montréal’s Quartier des spectacles. The festival presents shows by francophone artists from diverse musical backgrounds and nationalities. It showcases well-known artists, current favourites and rising stars. Place des Arts provides venues for many of the festival’s shows, and hosts a number of free concerts and events on the Esplanade.
The biggest musical festival of the francophonie
Every year, nearly 1,000 authors, composers, musicians and performers from a dozen countries meet up in Montréal to celebrate the joy of French-language song. Many recognized artists have left their mark on the festival, including Gilles Vigneault, Michel Rivard, Jean Leloup, Véronique Sanson, Juliette Greco, Laurence Jalbert, Robert Charlebois, Gilbert Bécaud, Ariane Moffatt and plenty more, as well as a range of up-and-coming artists.
