Able to bring good luck as well as misfortune, the firebird is an accurate reflection of the Russian spirit. Respighi’s lyric poem Il Tramonto (“the sunset”), here sung by Sasha Cooke, immerses us Italian-style in the tragic twilight of a love story. The mezzo-soprano also performs Pierre Jalbert’s eloquent From Dusk to Starry Night (2015), short melodies that incarnate the bliss and beauty of the night as well as its terror.
