On a North American tour, Portugal's brightest star returns to Montreal. Fado sensation Mariza, an immensely gifted vocalist who honed her talent in the tavernas of Lisbon’s Mouraria neighbourhood, brings her gorgeous voice and commanding presence back to the Maison symphonique de Montréal stage. Ever-inspired by legendary Portuguese fadistas such as Amália Rodrigues, and leading a new wave of notable female artists who are reinvigorating the genre, Mariza honours the traditions of her art form while still pushing musical boundaries in fresh and inspired ways.
Featuring a more mature sound, which Songlines describes as “crossing the purity of Joan Baez with the emotional heft of Edith Piaf,” expect a performance that roams freely between joy, nostalgia, and melancholy—a passionate portrayal made even more memorable in the intimate acoustics of the Maison symphonique.
Opening act: Bïa
Hailing from Brazil, Bïa is a Montrealer by adoption and an accomplished songwriter. She embodies the true meaning of the term "artist of the world". To open this evening, she will be forming a duet with Sheila Hannigan.
Tickets available in the galleries: standing places, no seat, general admission.
