Le cri du monde
Soft virtuosity, still humid, on the edge
Marie Chouinard
A journey across the stage and around the world—this could be the challenge posed by Soft virtuosity, still humid, on the edge. In this work, Marie Chouinard explores perambulation, which for her can take the form of a race or a leisurely stroll, a kiss or an embrace, a walk on pointe or a crawl. The complete Chouinard (or almost) in a fascinating fresco. As video projections multiply the dancers’ bodies and faces in a kaleidoscopic infinity, this major work conveys a labyrinth of visions. Marie Chouinard’s practice is unconventional and fearless, as her earlier piece, Le Cri du monde, also illustrates. A study of morphological division, this work enlists the architecture of the body to probe the forces and tensions within us. In a word: virtuosic.
