Le Cri des méduses
Alan Lake
Alan Lake likes to describe his choreographic language as a hybrid, through which he has created his own singular world. “I explore the interconnections between the body, filmed images, sculptural installations and raw material”, he says. Inspired by Théodore Géricault’s famous painting The Raft of the Medusa, he puts forward a vision of humanity adrift. Intensely physical dance, like a pagan ritual, is heightened by the powerful imagery of the stage design. “I consider myself a symbolist”, says Lake. His interpretation transforms nightmares into allegories. Le Cri des méduses is a waking dream, a dance of life and survival.
