A young Egyptian prodigy among the great oud virtuosi, Mohamed Abozekry is back in Montréal for an original production specially concocted for the Festival du Monde Arabe. This prolific oud player, never short of bold ideas, will be landing in the city with a hint of mischief. The new show he is putting on will be an authentic encounter with François Bourassa (piano), Érik Hove (saxophone), Patrick Graham (percussions), Frédéric Alarie (double bass) and Kevin Warren (drums), in short the jewel of the Montréal musical scene.
Accustomed to playing with musicians from different backgrounds, Mohamed Abozekry is a master of Oriental music and likes to blend the oud with other styles, jazz in particular, where improvisation reigns with a set of dialogues that sing and surprise. Blues and song are added as inspirations in the new creation. Caught up with the oud at an early age, this disciple of Naseer Shamma has moved beyond his initial challenges and musical experiments. His encounter with the Montréal musicians promises every music-lover a celebration and an unforgettable experience.
