Artists’ Residencies

Privileged access to a rehearsal room, so that creative work can take place under optimal conditions.

Residencies in a Place des Arts rehearsal room allows artists to develop new performing arts projects, under the best possible conditions.

Through its Artists’ Residency Program, Place des Arts seeks to support the research, experimentation, and creative activities of both professional and emerging artists.

To date, the program has been host to several hundred artists. Our rehearsal rooms are also open free of charge to emerging artists of the Société d’avancement de la chanson d’expression française (SACEF) and the Atelier lyrique de l'Opéra de Montréal.

The optimal artistic working conditions provided through residencies foster the production of original new works. We thereby contribute to the presentation and creation of dozens of shows each year.

After issuing a call to the artistic community in 2021, Place des Arts held 35 different residencies, mainly for emerging artists. In 2022, Place des Arts is innovating by hosting choreographer and documentary filmmaker Rhodnie Désir as an Associate Artist in a fixed-term pilot project that will allow the artist to foster dialogue with various communities, resident arts organizations, and Place des Arts partners, while practicing her art.

Artists’ residencies are made possible through the financial support of the Fondation de la Place des Arts.
