Espace culturel Georges-Émile-Lapalme

The Espace culturel Georges-Émile-Lapalme (formerly the Hall des Pas perdus) is a public space where millions of people pass through every year. Some hundred free cultural activities take place here each year; it’s a gathering place perfect for presenting various types of shows and events (dance, music, installations, talks, press conferences and more).

When it was completely renovated in 2011, the Hall was renamed Espace culturel Georges-Émile-Lapalme in honour of Québec’s first minister of cultural affairs (ministère des Affaires culturelles, 1961-1964), who instigated the creation of Place des Arts. The renovations gave us an opportunity to showcase two major existing art works, Comme si le temps... de la rue by Pierre Granche and L’artiste est celui qui fait voir l’autre côté des chose(An Artist Is One Who Shows the Other Side of Things) by Claude Bettinger.

The public space provides access to the exhibition room. The public space is also where you can admire the screen mosaic, which displays a variety of digital works at all times. The space also features a vast array of screens, poster areas and other surfaces that can serve your promotional and commercial needs.

  • Perfect for: free cultural activities, lectures, interviews, launches, dance shows, music and song shows.
  • Note: Espace culturel Georges-Émile-Lapalme is not available for rent, but it may be possible for you to use it for your event; simply contact the programming team. A range of services and technical equipment (movable stage; audio, video, sound and lighting equipment; dressing rooms) are available for artists who perform in this space.

SCREEN MOSAIC

Made up of 35 digital screens, the screen mosaic broadcasts digital works and other programming related to culture and the performing arts or inspired by the space itself. The mosaic’s original design was created by multimedia designer Érick Villeneuve.

EXHIBITION ROOM

Throughout the whole year, the exhibition room is the place to learn about what goes on behind the scenes at various shows and creations. It showcases different aspects of the performing arts: set design and costumes, photographic retrospectives and multimedia installations.
