An epic spirit from the heart of Russia sweeps through the Maison symphonique for this concert featuring Shostakovich's Violin Concerto no. 1 alongside Rachmaninoff's Symphony no. 2. Few Romantic symphonies have seen as much success as Rachmaninoff's Second: its timeless majesty recently echoed in the Oscar-winning film Birdman, which also received a Grammy Award for best score soundtrack in 2016. Leonidas Kavakos, whose international renown is an established fact, performs the Concerto in a programme directed by Lionel Bringuier, one of most gifted conductors of his generation.
