Founded in 1995 by one of Canada's foremost artists, cellist and conductor Denis Brott, the Festival is considered a major event in the North American musical landscape and one of the most renowned chamber music festivals in the world. The MCMF was born out of a fervent desire to create unique experiences for audiences and artists alike. Believing that chamber music is a language that begins where words end, each performer invited to play at the Festival is excellent, committed and passionate. They are the conduit through which the message of the music is heard.
Since its inception, over 100,000 spectators have attended more than 200 concerts and recitals presented by the Montreal Chamber Music Festival. This world-class event has won numerous awards and recognitions over the years, as has its founder, cellist and educator Denis Brott. As Artistic Director, he works to maintain the vision and mission of a festival known for its intimate, friendly and accessible nature, while maintaining a program aimed at excellence and innovation.
The Montreal Chamber Music Festival presents world-class talents alongside emerging artists
Over the years, internationally renowned soloists, musicians and ensembles have presented concerts and recitals including Jon Vickers, Oliver Jones, Alain Lefèvre, André Laplante, James Ehnes, Cameron Carpenter, the Swingle Singers, the Canadian Brass, and the Guarneri, Tokyo, Emerson and St. Lawrence String Quartets. The Festival also introduced Montrealers to many new talents by welcoming, for the first time, such renowned musicians as Canadian pianist Jan Lisiecki, Conrad Tao, Jonathan Crow, and the Afiara String Quartet, winners of the prestigious Banff International Competition.
