Every year in July, the Just for Laughs Festival gets Montréal guffawing with its many shows and galas, theatre shows, musical comedies and stand-up comics. It’s a gathering not to be missed for comedians and comedy-lovers alike!
Montréal’s Just for Laughs Festival presents hundreds of free outdoor activities alongside 250 shows in 25 downtown venues, including several in the halls of Place des Arts. It has become the world’s biggest comedy festival, attracting nearly two million visitors. With performances in both English and French (under Juste pour rire), it brings together some 1,700 artists from 19 countries. The festival’s goal? To make people happy!
Founded in 1983, the Groupe Juste pour rire handles the festival’s development and several other aspects: TV productions, shows and artist management. It also contributes to presenting many side events, shows and festivals, including the Zoofest comedy festival, the Mondial des Jeux gaming festival, and Bouffons Montréal, the largest open-air gastronomy village in North America.
The world’s biggest and most prestigious comedy festival
Every summer, the big names in comedy gather in Montréal for shows and special events. Among others, the festival has welcomed Laurent Paquin, Jean-Marc Parent and André Sauvé as well as international artists such as Jerry Seinfeld, Amy Schumer, Sarah Silverman, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Aziz Ansari, Seth Rogen, Chevy Chase and many more.
