Introduce Your Students to the Art of Songwriting: Lyrics, Music, and Performance.
This exploration will allow students to familiarize themselves with the steps of writing, composing, and performing a song related to themes of identity and territory. They will also gain insight into the creative process and artistic choices made by a singer-songwriter.
About the artist
A Radio-Canada 2022-2023 Revelation, finalist for Folk Artist and Emerging Artist at the 2022 Teweikan Gala, and for Indigenous Artist of the Year at the 2021 ADISQ Gala, Kanen is a singer-songwriter from the Innu community of Uashat mak Mani-Utenam.
She will perform her new show, Mitshuap, where she fully embodies her complexity, with a raw musicality, a punk energy marked by great poetry that evokes strong emotions. Her songs blend French and Innu-aimun, a language she mastered in a process of cultural and identity reappropriation.
