When Laura announces to Henri that she has been cast in the leading role in Sylvain Pastrami’s new film, the fragile balance of their relationship is disrupted. Henri, a failed writer riddled with anxiety, becomes a jealous ogre as his girlfriend shines under the libidinous gaze of the insufferable director and his “entourage.” Henri grows increasingly pathetic, just as Dr. Von Strudel adds to his troubles with a novel diagnosis of turtle syndrome, which will leave him misshapen and in pain within two years. How can Henri measure up to the darling of Québec cinema and win back Laura’s love?
Duceppe invites audiences to take a trip to the irresistibly funny and offbeat world of comic book artist Samuel Cantin and his graphic novel Whitehorse, winner of the Prix Marc-Olivier Lavertu and Bédélys Award (album of the year – Québec) in 2016.
In addition to offering a searing caricature of the Québec art world, Whitehorse is a satire of toxic masculinity, jealousy, ambition, and the fear of death.
Sébastien Tessier plays Henri and co-wrote this adaptation with Samuel Cantin and Guillaume Laurin, who portrays a hilarious Pastrami. Laurin is co-founder of Couronne Nord, a multidisciplinary company that made its mark with its film Jusqu’au déclin on Netflix and is the show’s producer. To create this astonishing stage project, Simon Lacroix was called into action, the co-founder of the Projet Bocal (Showtime – Une grosse pièce de théâtre), an expert in everything madcap and an inveterate fan of the comic book artist.
