Talk followed by a workshop-show

Consisting of three explorer-musicians who combine the techniques of contemporary musical styles and traditional gnawa music, Trio Nomad’s Land performs here as a duo to tell their story. Saïd Mesnaoui, from Morocco’s gnawa tradition, a musical style with animistic and therapeutic trances, is a recognized and innovative maâlem (master) both in his lyrics and his collaborations. His Québec associate, Guy Pelletier, a talented multi-flutist, is comfortable in every style and enjoys an established career as a soloist, chamber music player and improviser. Together they will take us along the path of a new musical style where flute sounds blend with the delicate Arab-Berber filigrees of gnawa music.

The audience is invited to take part in the exchanges in this hybrid event crossing between workshop-lecture, master class and show. It fits in with the thematic series of the 19th Festival du Monde Arabe de Montréal: Songs of mutants, on the shores of Gibraltar.
