Both are composers of genius, idols of their art, contemporaries and compatriots, yet their aesthetic approaches radically diverged. Tchaikovsky’s exultant sentimentality and deep attachment to European musical tradition vie with Rimsky-Korsakov’s Orientalist tastes and fascination with the exotic, in a concert featuring each composer’s possibly best-known, most emblematic work. Rafael Payare and the OSM join forces with the revered pianist Yoav Levanon in his Canadian debut performance with orchestra.
