The privilege of giving the opening concert at the Amphithéâtre Fernand-Lindsay for the Festival’s 41st season goes to the OSM. And the honour of leading it goes to one of the most admired and respected conductors of our time. The program conforms to the season’s theme: “in love as in war.” Elgar’s Cello Concerto is one of the most beautiful and romantic ever written for the instrument. And Berlioz’s Fantastique was inspired by one of the most famous love stories of the 19th century, involving the composer and the actress Harriet Smithson, which ended badly.

Hector BERLIOZ, Symphonie Fantastique
Edward ELGAR, Cello Concerto
