In accordance with government directives, Place des Arts has suspended its activities until further notice. These measures have been put into effect due to circumstances relating to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. Consequently, The Scots in 19th century Montreal conversation scheduled on April 23 has been cancelled.
Scots—from regions all across Scotland—made their way to Quebec in great numbers from the 18th century to the early 20th century. Immigrants from the Scottish Lowlands mostly settled in urban centres like Montreal. Throughout this period, they were very active in trade and business. Many of them made fortunes and left behind a philanthropic legacy that is still very much alive today.
