Last season, in anticipation of the Festival’s 40th anniversary, the Jupiter Quartet inaugurated its complete Beethoven quartet cycle. This season it performs the rest of the cycle in three more concerts. An early-, a middle-, and a late-period quartet is on each of the programs of July 12 and 13, while July 11 contains just two quartets (one middle and one late), both of exceptional breadth and scope.
Born of the tradition of his great predecessors Haydn and Mozart, Beethoven forged new paths for the medium of the string quartet. To encounter his works in the genre is to undergo one of music’s most profound, inspiring, moving and spiritual experiences.
