It’s unanimous: Janette Bertrand did a lot for the cause of women in Quebec. On the one hand, we can celebrate the progress that has been made since the 1960s, but on the other, we must also realize how fragile women’s rights continue to be.
What battles should we fight in 2025? What place do men have in the ongoing struggle for equity and equality between the sexes? Why do we still need a Janette?
Presenting the play Janette at Duceppe next spring, internationally recognized playwright Rebecca Déraspe will celebrate Janette Bertrand’s accomplishments. Joining her will be Vanessa Destiné, a columnist for various Quebec media outlets, such as Urbania, Radio-Canada, Télé-Québec, and ARTV. They will be speaking with Francis Dupuis-Déri, a researcher and professor of political science at UQAM, and an author of books on antifeminism and pro-feminist men. Together, they will share their points of view with ethnologist, author, and columnist Isabelle Picard, who specializes in First Nations.
