PLAY 1 - Martin Messier, GGROUNDD

From September 8 to 10, the Play series' five double programs carve out space for experimentation inside Place des Arts’ Cinquième Salle. Play highlights the exploratory, visceral and playful character of contemporary artists in digital art, audiovisual creation, and electronic music.

Martin Messier — Echo Chamber LIVE A/V World premiere

For over 15 years, Martin Messier has created work that pushes into new terrain. He has presented his work in over 50 countries and founded sound production company 14 lieux. Premiering at MUTEK, The Echo Chamber is a live audiovisual performance where Messier inspects matter using sound and light.

GGROUNDD — LIMIT BRICK LIVE A/V World premiere

Line Katcho is a Montréal composer and audiovisual artist who hybridizes styles and tech methods. Guillaume Cliche experiments with new ways of presenting sonic works and with real-time and algorithmic composition. Under the name GGROUNDD, they will premiere live audiovisual performance LIMIT BRICK, which explores the notion of limits through algorithm-based music.

Please note that physical distancing protocols are in effect for this performance, which means that 1 seat will remain empty on each side of seated spectators, except for spectators from the same family bubble.

To attend the performance, ticketholders must comply with the usual health and safety measures, in addition to meeting the following two criteria:

  • All spectators aged 13 and up must show a vaccine passport, along with a proof of ID, at the entrance to the performance hall. A photo ID is required for people of ages 16 to 74.

  • All spectators aged 10 and up must wear a face covering at all times: when circulating and during the performance (masks are also strongly recommended for children of ages 2 to 9).
