He’s given us 10 years of the well-known Poésie, sandwichs et autres soirs qui penchent. He’s also captivated us with the wonderful Dans les charbons, the touching Est-ce qu’on peut pleurer un tout petit peu? and, more recently, the inspiring Chansons pour filles et garçons perdus. A multidisciplinary artist who studied at the Conservatoire d’art dramatique de Montréal, Loui Mauffette was the Théâtre du Nouveau Monde’s “attaché de cœur” for many years, but he largely made a name for himself as the inspired creator of many poetic happenings.
Usually surrounded by some twenty artists, this time, he is bringing us an almost solo fable. “Almost” solo in that he just couldn’t resist the idea of having some of his favourite ghosts accompany him, embodied by a few of his loyal associates (Patricia Nolin, Maxime Denommée, Gilles Renaud, and Catherine De Léan) and some surprise guests. Over the course of what calls “his poetic palpitations,” he will become a conveyer of poetry, with readings of texts from various horizons, touching on several different trends. He will also share some of his favourite songs, along with old LPs waiting for a little attention, a few flights of fancy, and a sparkle or two. More than ever, he reveals himself here to be following in the footsteps of his father, the late actor, poet, and radio personality Guy Mauffette. And he does so without nostalgia, but simply with a desire to get reacquainted, to celebrate, and to enjoy!
