The Nuit de la poésie (Poetry Night) being held at Place des Arts as part of Nuit blanche promises to be epic! Inspired by three similar events that left their mark on Quebec literary history in 1970, 1980, and 1991, this evening, hosted by Marie-Andrée Lamontagne, is sure to be a memorable one.

The event’s guest of honour, Innu poet Joséphine Bacon, accompanied by Jos Tonnerre, will open the proceedings with a reading of her poignant and engaged writing. Twelve Quebec poets will follow her, each reading one of their poems: Andréanne Frenette-Vallières, Rodney Saint-Eloi, Pierre Nepveu, Louise Dupré, Thomas Mainguy, Rita Mestokocho, Marc-André Brouillette, Denise Desautels, Pierre Morency, Suzanne Lafrance, Rachel Henrie-Gouin, and Laure Morali.

You will also get to hear the artists’ thoughts on how they conceive their poetry and their comments on their creative actions. Improvised musical performances by members of UQAM’s music faculty will also add to the event atmosphere.

Snacks and drinks will be available on site ($*), and Librairie Port de Tête will have a kiosk with a great selection of poetry books available for purchase.

Finally, to complete the experience, you can watch video projections of Nuits de la poésie from the three previous editions at Place des Arts' Salle Claude-Léveillée. This free activity will run continuously from 6:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.
