Nearer Future

Cinquième Salle April 17, 2020

In accordance with government directives, Place des Arts has suspended its activities until further notice. These measures have been put into effect due to circumstances relating to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. Consequently, the Nearer Future projection has been cancelled.

An immersive exploration of the natural world and the virtual horizon we find ourselves floating ever closer towards, Nearer Future uses projection and sound to create a mesmerising moving image installation. Reflecting the vibrancy and vitality of the Scottish coast, visual artist Heather Lander’s shimmering video documentation and computer generated graphics depict a delicate digital environment on the edge of land and sea, and between defence and destruction. Accompanied by Robert Bentall’s ambient composition Telian (played on the traditional Swedish nyckelharpa), relax to the rolling tides whilst remembering that, with every passing moment, we are in danger of forever damaging our land and sea.
