Oud player Nazih Borish will bring a centuries-old heritage to life, for a glimpse into the innovative and sophisticated culture of the Umayyad dynasty. Listeners will embark on a journey from the deserts of Damascus to the coastlines of Andalusia, as Borish conjures the spirit of ancient poets, manipulating the strings of his oud with unsurpassed dexterity.
As the air fills with melodies that evoke a panoply of musical landscapes, the stage will be transformed into dazzling Caliphate courts, intimate flamenco tablaos and tranquil roadways traversed by wandering bards of a bygone era, a time when art and beauty formed the common language.
Nazih Borish is the founder of a music school in his home city of Lattakia, Syria. Drawing on influences ranging from Arabic music to flamenco, blues and jazz, his unique style defies the limits of his instrument.
