Near the end of the summer of 1896, in the enchanting environment of his Alpine retreat, Gustav Mahler completed another symphony. He wrote to a friend that “summer brought me the Third, probably my most extraordinary work so far. Imagine a work of such magnitude that it actually mirrors the whole world, an instrument the whole universe plays on … a musical poem that ascends from inanimate Nature to the love of God.” With this symphony, Kent Nagano and the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal provide a grandiose conclusion to the 2019 season of the Festival de Lanaudière.
