Place des Arts is proud to present a family-friendly interactive program on the Esplanade.
The Family Fest on the Esplanade will offer a series of ongoing workshops in an artistic discipline among professional artists, culminating in a group performance.
ON THE PROGRAM
Movement workshop
Two artists from the Vancouver dance company Foolish Operations invite families to experience movement using yarn as a creative starting point to explore the elements of dance movement: Heights, static and dynamic forms, patterns, turns, and jumps with the option of a group composition. Based on the principles of creative dance, participants will choose their own movements. (11 - 11:30 a.m., 11:45 a.m. - 12:15 p.m., 12:30 - 1 p.m.)
Collaborative knitting workshop
Participate in the collective wraparound creation while learning arm knitting. Together, we will create a giant, colourful scarf. (11 a.m. - 1:15 p.m.)
Workshop on traditional Québec dance with caller Ghislain Jutras
A musician, two dancers, and a caller will have you dancing to the rhythms of traditional Québec music. Whether you are a neophyte or expert, these artists will have you jigging and laughing to the lively tunes as though you were in your own kitchen. (11:15 - 11:45 a.m., 12 - 12:30 p.m., 12:45 - 1:15 p.m.)
Group performance
Led by contemporary choreographer Julie Lebel and traditional dancers, enjoy participating in a group performance along with traditional musicians. (1:15 - 2 p.m.)
