The rise of cinema in the 20th century was an agent of change for symphonic music, with some of the repertoire’s most beautiful works emerging out of Hollywood studios. The Orchestre Philharmonique du Québec and Alexandre Da Costa honour the musical pioneers and visionaries who served the seventh art and shaped an idiom that continues unabated to this day. Max Steiner, Elmer Bernstein, Miklos Rozsa, and Erich Wolfgang Korngold contributed to the golden age of film in Hollywood; this concert features gems of their art from the symphonic soundtracks to King Kong, Gone With the Wind, Casablanca, Ben Hur, and The Adventures of Robin Hood. A richly coloured repertoire enhanced by the soaring melodies of Alexandre Da Costa’s 1701 “Deveault” Stradivarius!
