Hauterive: A name that reflects Mara Tremblay’s hometown as well as the authenticity that this new duo of friends and musicians, completed by Catherine Durand, seeks to instill at the heart of its repertoire.
Accomplished singer-songwriters Catherine and Mara share a passion for folk music that has spanned more than twenty years in their respective solo careers. Having worked closely together on stage and in their personal lives, the idea of forming a duo came instinctively and naturally, with the sole aim of playing together for the pure fun of it. This artistic confluence has produced seven original songs and two very distinctive covers, with a hint more country feel.
The duo’s first nine tracks quickly evolved into an album with studio contributions by well-respected musicians from the Montreal roots music scene: Joe Grass (pedal steel, acoustic and electric guitar, mandolin), Marie-Anne Arsenault (bass) and Victor Tremblay-Desrosiers (drums, percussion). They were released to the public in May 2023.
The brand-new duo’s album Hauterive takes to the stage in an extremely intimate acoustic format, with the two multi-instrumentalists sharing the roles of accompanist and performer. It's a unique opportunity to be immersed in the tenderness, intensity and connection that power the musical collaborations between Mara Tremblay and Catherine Durand.
