The dancers’ organic gestures carve the space. Against the backdrop of an unsettled time, this fragile humanity progresses to the rhythm of group logic. Quijada reframes his highly distinctive style, a fusion of the spontaneous athleticism of hip-hop and the precision of ballet and contemporary dance. Disruptions rumble and build, slowly, imperceptibly, until suddenly everything shifts. While Quotient Empirique (2013) looked back on a decade of RUBBERBANDance Group’s artistic journey, Vraiment doucement explores the break points that mark both an ending and a new beginning. Driven by an irrepressible sense of urgency, the dancers embody rebellion. The culmination of a 15 year creative process, Vraiment doucement looks resolutely to the future. In this work, Quijada and his company are at the height of their art.
