For the 10th edition of its Opus concert series, the Chœur Métropolitain presents great choral works by Stravinsky and Brahms, accompanied by two pianists.
In his highly rhythmic Symphony of Psalms, Stravinsky drew inspiration from both the Eastern sounds of Byzantine music and the musical traditions of the Latin West, including Gregorian chant.
Brahms's Liebeslieder Waltzes and Neue Liebeslieder are romantic in every sense of the word. Drawing on texts inspired by European folk traditions, these love songs are composed in a style that, while influenced by the Austrian waltz king Johann Strauss, bears Brahms's unmistakably Romantic signature.
