What does Swan Lake inspire in contemporary choreographers? Two dance superstars boldly tackle this iconic romantic ballet for the 16 dancers of Gauthier Dance.
Choreographer and artistic director Éric Gauthier has given two of his favourite choreographers free rein to create their own version of the legendary ballet. Marie Chouinard and Hofesh Shechter appropriate Swan Lake, shaking it up and subverting its beauty in original ways, in two daring approaches that are respectively radical and explosive, leaving their distinctive stamp on their vision of the work. Finally, Minus 16 by choreographer Ohad Naharin completes the triptych. An evening of shocks and contrasts —no gauzy tutus and romantic moonlight here!
