Rap and Hip-Hop have pride of place at Place des Arts
Performances and events from all over have been staged in our concert halls, but also in our outdoor venues, uniting massive numbers of fans in hands-in-the-air, call-and-response celebration. PdA is hosting more and more shows in this genre with each passing year, catering to growing demand.
The scene is really popping
There are plenty of events that provide the opportunity to enjoy these musical styles, sometimes spanning several days and expressing multidisciplinary identities. One such happening is the JOAT (Jack of all Trades) International Street Dance Festival, which attracts dancers from all over to celebrate this urban art form. During the week-long event, Rap and Hip-Hop jams form the backdrop as superbly gifted competitors take their athleticism to the limit in popping, breaking and hip-hop battles. In keeping with our mission of promoting French songwriting in all its forms, Place des Arts is also a venue of choice for Francophone Rap and Hip-Hop artists. Acadian outfit Radio Radio, who are part of the new generation of performers that is spreading the art form far and wide, have played PdA several times to great acclaim.
