Circus

Electrifying emotions on the menu
The circus is always guaranteed to delight the kid in all of us. Its impressive array of disciplines combine to generate thrilling sensations that have audiences holding their collective breath. A number of years ago, the circus arts emerged from under the traditional big top, and productions are now adapted for more accessible venues. Place des Arts plays host to many such creations, some fully circus-oriented, and some including other art forms. Either way, audiences have a simple way to enjoy these amazing displays of prowess, all year round!
Experience the new wave of circus arts

The circus is an artistic medium that has surged in popularity in recent years. The genre has also found its way into stage performances on every scale, lending an extra touch of magic to already well-orchestrated productions. Place des Arts is fortunate to host multidisciplinary performers who deliver a new take on the art form, adapting it not only for different audiences, but different settings as well. The performers in the Jeunesse and PDA Junior series deftly incorporate juggling and clown acts into their routines, bringing laughs and wonderment to our youngest audiences.
World-renowned troupes occasionally make tour stops at PdA as well to present their most recent creations. Among them, Montréal’s Cirque Éloize brought two of its productions to Théâtre Maisonneuve: CIRKOPOLIS in November 2013, followed by the world premiere of HOTEL in November 2018.
Other Québec companies play a headlining role in circus shows at Place des Arts. One of them is the collective Les 7 Doigts (The 7 Fingers), which specializes in “auteurist” performances in small spaces, adeptly stirring contemporary dance, acrobatics and theatre into its circus brew. Its show Triptyque enjoyed a run of shows at PdA in 2017.
