The most famous orchestras and the most renowned concert halls of Europe are after him: French conductor Alain Altinoglu, whose OSM debut last fall was a major event. He returns to the OSM, along with pianist Francesco Piemontesi, for the grand opening concert of the 2019 Festival, a concert of magical Mendelssohn (music from A Midsummer Night’s Dream), pianistic pyrotechnics (Mendelssohn’s Piano Concerto No. 1), the passion of Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde and the shenanigans of Strauss’s Till Eulenspiegel.
Felix MENDELSSOHN, A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Overture and suite drawn from Op. 61: Scherzo, Intermezzo, Nocturne, Wedding March, Dance of the Rustics)
Félix MENDELSSOHN, Piano Concerto No. 1 in G minor
Richard WAGNER, Prelude and Liebestod from Tristan und Isolde
Richard STRAUSS, Till Eulenspiegel’s Merry Pranks, Op. 28
