Unveiled in 1505, The Garden of Earthly Delights is considered one of the greatest paintings of our time. The hallucinatory triptych by the Dutch painter Hieronymus Bosch is crowded with shrieking mouths and tortured souls, alongside the figures of Adam and Eve. Voluptuous material for Marie Chouinard’s choreographic imagination. After her Faun and Rite of Spring, landmark works in the international repertoire, she boldly follows in Bosch’s footsteps. In three acts—The Garden of Delights, Hell, and Paradise—Marie Chouinard and her 10 dancers recreate the medieval artwork in movement and images, as video projections draw the viewer deep into the teeming heart of the painting. Chouinard has chosen “to ‘stick’ to Bosch’s painting, its spirit. The joy of bowing before a masterpiece!”, she exclaims. Backed by an original score by Louis Dufort, Marie Chouinard has created a typically provocative work. Bringing Hieronymus Bosch to life, with masterful talent.
