Adaptive Arts Program : My Place is here

Newly launched for the 2018-2019 season, the Adaptive Arts Program features 3 projects centred on the artistic disciplines of dance, song, and spoken word.

Each project consists of a series of practical introduction-to-the-performing-arts workshops led by experienced artist-mediators. Place des Arts favours a humanistic approach based on observation, discussion, and the creative process. The workshops act as venues for self-expression, encounters, and learning. At the end of the process, public presentations give Program participants the opportunity to perform or to present their creative work in a professional context. All Program activities are held in the public space of the Espace culturel Georges-Émile-Lapalme. The venue is arranged to meet the participants’ specific needs and to allow them to feel comfortable and confident.

Given the performing arts’ power to unify and act as a driving force, as well as its positive impact on well-being, Place des Arts is developing collaborative partnerships with organizations in the cultural, health, and social services sectors in order to increase opportunities for engagement, knowledge sharing, and artistic expression with people of diverse socio-cultural backgrounds, with the ultimate goal of achieving greater social and cultural inclusion.
