Education and Animation

Through the Access to the Performing Arts Program, Place des Arts offers a variety of cultural activities year-round that aim to raise awareness about various forms of art and to support artists toward the goal of creating or launching original works.

The objective is to introduce a broad audience to art, and to create links between artists and audience members of all ages and all backgrounds by helping to make various forms of performing arts accessible.

We are able to accomplish this mission thanks to the financial support of the Fondation de la Place des Arts. The program has four components:

Cultural Activities Program

Every year, more than 100 free activities (exhibits, works broadcast on the screen mosaic, discussions, song and dance shows) are presented in the Espace culturel Georges-Émile-Lapalme, reaching tens of thousands of people.

Youth and Family Program: shows for the whole family

The Place des Arts Junior series presents some fifteen shows each year at affordable prices, as well as a series of free activities during winter break. Kids are greeted by entertainers Gaspart and Dahlia, who lead them in activities designed to introduce them to the performing arts before each performance.

Residencies and Co-productions Program

The Residencies and Co-productions Program supports artistic research, experimentation and creation in various disciplines, including theatre, contemporary dance and song. Throughout the year, dozens of artists and artisans fill the halls at Place des Arts to create new artistic works that are then made available to audiences.

Educational Program: cultural mediation projects for teens

In 2012, Place des Arts’ educational program joined our family programming and other free facilitated activities that introduce kids to the performing arts. For the moment, this program is aimed at high school students and their teachers, offering cultural mediation projects that focus on creativity and imagination. It also helps young people acquire skills and abilities that are both related to the school curriculum and relevant to their everyday lives.
