Support for School Field Trips
EDUCATIONAL AND CULTURAL FIELD TRIPS
Place des Arts offers two programs to schools in Montréal and surrounding areas to facilitate kids’ participation in their schools’ cultural field trips.
THE MESURE DE CONCERTATION RÉGIONALE EN CULTURE-ÉDUCATION
The Mesure de concertation régionale en culture-éducation (regional joint action measure for culture and education) is a tool put into place by the Ministère de la Culture et des Communications (the province’s ministry of culture and communications) to support school cultural field trips to professional cultural organizations registered with the Répertoire de ressources culture-éducation (the provincial directory of culture and education resources).
With this measure, the Ministère hopes to help introduce a greater number of students to culture outside their schools and to encourage their taste for visiting professional cultural spaces and develop their habit of doing so.
This subsidy helps, among other things, to cover some of the schools’ costs that are associated with educational cultural field trips.
The school’s principal must submit the request for cultural field trip support to the school board. The board convenes an evaluation committee to provide support for the projects submitted. A project submission form is available from each school commission.
The Mesure de concertation régionale en culture-éducation can cover a maximum of 75% of the fees; the school must cover at least 25%.

THE AGIR AUTREMENT STRATEGY
The Stratégie d’intervention Agir autrement (the “act differently” intervention strategy) was launched in 2002 by the Ministère de l’Éducation et de l’Enseignement supérieur (the province’s ministry of education and higher learning) to reduce the gap in school success between underprivileged areas and more privileged ones. Its goal is to support schools as they help channel students from underprivileged areas toward success.
The Agir autrement measure is an amount provided by the school commission to schools in underprivileged areas to help them undertake projects that aim to increase their students’ perseverance and academic success. The amount allotted is calculated by the number of students and the school’s level of need. The school can choose what measures to put into place to meet their students’ needs. One of those measures can include helping the students to become more well-rounded through cultural experiences.
For the Island of Montréal, the Agir autrement strategy only targets high schools. Elementary schools are supported through the Une école montréalaise pour tous (a Montréal school for everyone) measure.
