On the occasion of Place des Arts’ 50th anniversary, you are cordially invited to attend a series of cultural events, many of which will be presented in the Espace culturel Georges-Émile-Lapalme. This space, which is open to one and all, is dedicated to the creation and presentation of free programming showcasing all artistic disciplines, from performing and visual arts to digital arts.

To highlight its 50th anniversary, Place des Arts is focusing on the events and personalities that have left their mark on its history. Through a series of activities, you will be given a chance to look back at these unique events, making inspiring discoveries that bear witness to the vitality and relevance of this leading Québec cultural institution.

Walking into the exhibition room in the Espace culturel Georges-Émile-Lapalme, you will suddenly be re-introduced to events and personalities that have marked the history of Place des Arts. You will witness the artistic effervescence of its stages, and explore the various phases of transformation the space has undergone over the past 50 years. You will also have an opportunity to take part in a group work, by expressing what inspires you about Place des Arts.

This immersive experience is designed by Frédéric Loury and produced by La Camaraderie, a workshop specializing in participatory design.

Strolling along the Espace culturel’s passageway, on the screen mosaic you will see a work by artists Serge Maheu and Christine Francescutti, who were inspired by posters and photos of certain key moments in the history of Place des Arts. This work also gives a voice to artists who played an important role in Québec’s cultural history.
